7 important classical dance forms of India

1- Bharatanatyam
It is the oldest of all dances, which also appears in Mohan Jodro's 'Durga Purusha's idol' in which a dancer displays 10 or 12 expressions. Bharatanatyam was developed in South India (Tamil Nadu). The Chola kings placed hundreds of devadasis in their temples, performed Devdasis in the temples, performing rituals and other religious ceremonies, in which a person plays music. Basuri, Mridang, Ghatak, Manjeera is the main instrument of this dance

2-Kathak
Kathak means 'Katha' meaning a dance which describes a story. Kathak was well-fabled and refined in holy Hindu temples in North India, for centuries, and it enriched itself with various colors of the culture here. Kathak's references are also found in epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata. Along with the development of devotional times in medieval India, Kathak continued to be displayed in the temple premises in the form of drama such as Sakhyan, Pandwani, Harikatha, and Kaltekopam etc. Kathak developed into a single dance form.

3-Kuchipudi
According to ancient beliefs, from Kuchipudi village of Andhra Pradesh, this dance has originated.Brahmins do it, keeping feet on copper plates in the temples and keeping some on the head too, and this dance is based on Krishna.

4-MohiniAttam
Only female dancers are Kerala's solo dance form, only women do it. Traditionally, the story of Lord Vishnu's Sagar-Manthan is staged in Mohiniattam dance, in which he destroys Bhasmasur by wearing the form of Mohini during the Sagar Manthan.

5- Odyssey
In the theatrical phase of the development of the Odyssey in dramatics, it was called Onda dance. The sculpture of the Ranigup of Udayagiri Hills of Orissa, the first century BC, shows the performance of this dance of a dancer.The Odissi dance was developed in both Hindu temples and in the royal court. An important tradition of Odissi dance is found in innumerable temples in Orissa and the theatrical drama of 13th century Konark temple. The Odissi dance was performed in the inner sanctum of the Jagannath temple of Puri only for gods.

6- Kathakali
Kathakali is the form of a dance drama of the state of Kerala. Kathakali is the culmination of a long process of development. Dancers do not speak anything in Kathakali, And its theatrical song goes to Manipravallam, which is a kind of Malayalam rich in Sanskrit. Kathakali is displayed with wide hand gestures and popular currencies.Because of the Kathakali presentation in the night, Bhaddeep is burnt for lighting. It is also on the Ramayana and Mahabharata

7-Manipuri
A centuries-old tradition of Manipuri dance and music is found in the subject matter of Krishna's childhood mischief and the divine love with Radha, the theme of two dance forms of Manipur, Sankirtan, and Raslila.
