1. Indira Gandhi's full name was Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi. She was born on November 19, 1917, in a prosperous family in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her father's name was Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the first Prime Minister of Independent India. Her mother was Kamala Nehru. Her grandfather's name was Motilal Nehru.Indira Gandhi married Feroz Gandhi and gave birth to two sons, Rajiv and Sanjay.
2. After completing her schooling, Indira Gandhi took admission in Biswa-Bharati University, built by Rabindranath Tagore in Shantiniketan.At the time of her interview, Rabindranath Tagore named her Priyadarshini and since then Indira has been identified as Priyadarshini Nehru. She went to Europe to get further education. It is said that she completed her studies at Oxford University.
3. Indira Gandhi was an ideal woman of Asia at Oxford University.After coming back to India in 1941, she joined the Indian Independence Movement.During the 'Civil Disobedience' movement of 1930, to help the volunteers of the Congress, they established the 'Vanarsena' of small children.In 1942 she was jailed for joining the 'Quit India' movement.
4. Indira Gandhi became the third Prime Minister of India. She was the Prime Minister of the Republic of India for 3 consecutive terms from 1966 to 1977 and thereafter he was the Prime Minister of India till his death in the fourth innings from 1980 to 31 October 1984.
5. Indira Gandhi declared states of emergency in states from 1975 to 1977 and ordered to implement it in all the states.She remained the first and the only female Prime Minister of India till now.
6. Indira Gandhi is also referred to as 'Iron Lady'.her excellent work, she was honored with the 'Bharat Ratna' of India's highest civilian honor in 1971.She was the first woman to receive 'Bharat Ratna' award.
7. She was assassinated by his own bodyguard on October 31, 1984.Indira Gandhi was a woman who not only stood on Indian politics but also left the singular influence on the horizon of world politics.Yesterday was the 100th birth anniversary of her.
